This expressive West African style tribal mask is hand-carved from a single block of dense, dark wood with a weathered and aged patina. Styled in the manner of regional hunting or societal masks, it features prominent, protruding cylindrical eyes and a distinct raised brow line heavily embellished with a border of metallic upholstery tacks. The perimeter of the face, jawline, and crown are wrapped in coarse animal fur, complemented by a thick, fiber-based mustache and beard arrangement below a wide, open rectangular mouth. The hollow reverse displays visible adze marks from hand-crafting and a series of drilled attachment holes along the edge.
